Contract Manufacturing Relationships
نویسنده
چکیده
Contract manufacturing enables intellectual property holders to enjoy scale economies, reduce labor costs and free up capital. However, in many scenarios contract manufacturing is a double-edged sword, rife with entrenchments, threats of predation or hold up. I explore these contract manufacturing problems in a non-recursive relational contract setting. These non-recursivities appear in at least two scenarios: First, a setting where there is learning by doing, but the accumulated expertise can also be used by the agent to compete against the principal. Second, a setting where there are multiple potential producers, but these contract manufacturers have prior entrenchments effecting their costs and can hold up the client. The analysis of these relations requires a novel methodological approach. A key contribution is that despite the non-recursive nature of these relationships, in both settings the principal optimal contract is characterized by a simple index rule, which does not depend on history or other agents. The New Old Economy: Networks, Institutions, and the Organizational Transformation of American Manufacturing
The rules of engagement in the global economy and the fragmentation of mass markets have led many manufacturing companies to close down operations in the U.S. Those that survive have done so by focusing on their core competencies in design, marketing, and assembly, subcontracting the manufacture of components to smaller contractors, many still in the U.S. The emerging production regime in these...

The social contract has been about rights and responsibilities in human societies. Facebook and its role in manufacturing and sustaining a global social contract, a new “we” is clearly one of the research areas that needs more attention. A new “we” is coming of age in the new age of connectivity and communication with a new outlook toward responsibility and rights at individual and collective l...
متن کاملEnterprise Systems contracting: developing and testing a model of divergent approaches in the service and manufacturing sectors
Virtually all Enterprise Systems (ES) implementation projects start with a purchase contract. Yet there has been little research on ES contracting approaches, and how those approaches relate to the previous literature on productivity gains from spending on those systems. Building on the IT productivity paradox notion, this paper proposes a model of divergent ES contracting approaches in the ser...

Wage Inequality and Job Insecurity among Permanent and Contract Workers in India: Evidence from Organized Manufacturing Industries Since the early 1990s, the employment structure of organised manufacturing industries in India has undergone substantial changes with the steep rise in the use of contract workers in place of permanent workers. This process has led to increased wage inequality, disc...

Holonic manufacturing systems requires a robust and effective mechanism to reorganize available resources to cope with uncertainties to achieve the production goal. This paper combines the contract net protocol and Petri net to adaptively synthesize Petri net to control holonic manufacturing systems. The main results include: (1)a multi-agent model for holonic manufacturing systems based on con...
